Reuse in New York City
New York City Funded Reuse Programs and Resources
From non-profit organizations to city-funded programs, New York City is home to many reuse initiatives aimed at utilizing one of our most valuable resources-- the materials we already have at hand...
NYC Stuff Exchange
The NYC Stuff Exchange is a quick and simple online tool, from the Deptartment of Sanitation's Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling, that helps residents easily find out where to donate, buy, or sell gently used goods in NYC. Hundreds of listings are searchable by zip code, borough, or citywide. The Stuff Exchange Website was launched in 2007 and now you can view Stuff Exchange on your mobile device with the Stuff Exchange iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch app.
re-fashioNYC
re-fashioNYC, launched in 2011, is a public-private partnership between the City of New York and Housing Works to make clothing donation as easy as possible through convenient in-building drop-off service. For more information on re-fashioNYC and to inquire about having a clothing bin placed in your residential building, take a look at the re-fashioNYC webpage.
NYC WasteMatch
ReuseNYC's sister program, NYC WasteMatch, a free online materials exchange and referral service. NYC WasteMatch matches generators or donors of valuable commercial “waste” and surplus materials to users or recipients. In doing so, NYC WasteMatch keeps valuable resources out of the waste stream while offering clients an opportunity to save money and lower their environmental impact. Learn more about NYC WasteMatch and link to the website from our NYC WasteMatch page.
